So what happened to January, I'm really
not sure, nothing catastrophic, just busy with shows,
work, litters etc. but otherwise pretty uneventful
month. Not uneventful in the show ring though.
January an February were great months.
Tessa, shown by Debbie Foust, just had a
huge winning streak and she finished her US Championship
in pretty much two events. She got her majors and
won breed over specials and was pulled for a group
placement. Fantastic achievement, it was like she
could not lose.
The new kids debuted at the end of
Janaury. Both Izzy and Cleo were just the right
age to show at the Cloverdale show end of January.
It was a great success. I have been taking them to
class, and even got a few one on one sessions so they
would be OK in the ring. They both did me proud.
Cleo was a little nuts, but pulled it together.
Izzy took a reserve one day of the show, and Cleo won
her class every day, and took winners bitch for her
first points. Very exciting, I was thrilled.
Izzy's sister also did very well and took reserve on her
first show too.
It was actually a fantastic show for
Coby babies and grand-babies. We dominated the
female side and every day of the 3 day show either a
Coby daughter or Coby grand-daughter won winners female.
Lots and lots of fun
Now February has not been so fun.
A breeder friend of mine in
Washington had her first litter about 2 1/2 weeks ago.
The mom went into eclampsia (lack of calcium) before the
litter was even whelped so an emergency C section was
necessary. The vet recommended the mom did not
feed or care for the babies, so on their very first
litter my poor friends had 7 babies to hand raise.
Well if you have raised 1 or 2 by hand you know that 7
is way too much work for two people, so I have been
spending the last 2 weeks helping raise the litter.
The babies started out with tube feeding every 2 hours,
24 hours a day. We have them up to 3 hours now,
and have almost all of them on bottles. It takes
about 1 1/2 hours to go through the entire rotation.
Babies also can't potty by themselves, you need to take
each one to the sink, and stimulate it to potty.
They are all doing well, although we had one emergency
visit with one pup who just was not doing well at all.
He is now recovered and seems to be just fine. We
just need to maintain this pace until they are 3 weeks +
and then we can start weaning them on mushy food, and
decrease the feeding times. Still lots of work,
but a bit easier.
